Clinical Profile & Philosophy
I believe that therapy is a safe space for building self-awareness, increasing compassion and understanding, and developing lasting positive change in one's life. As an Art Therapist, my approach is established on a foundation of genuineness and creativity, which gives plenty of opportunities for making meaning of one's lived and inner experiences. This therapeutic lens can also bring about a sense of curiosity to learn more about oneself while fostering new perspectives and motivation for growth.
My role as a therapist is to support, challenge, and empower you as we work toward your personal goals for treatment. I am a strong believer that all humans have a natural strength of resiliency, and I am here to help that part of you shine through. When participating in therapy services with me, we will collaborate to identify and make progress toward the goals and changes you would like to see in your life and for your well-being. During sessions, we will explore your thoughts, emotions, experiences, and choices through discussion, reflection, and art making. My goal as your therapist is to support and guide you to a place of discovering self-worth and purpose in your life.
I am a Board-Certified Art Therapist (ATR-BC) and Licensed Processional Counselor (LPC). My education and training have provided me with the unique skillset to 'prescribe' certain art methods and materials, based on your individual needs, as a way to facilitate deeper awareness and processing. This allows you to learn about yourself through color, images, and symbols while in a safe, therapeutic environment. And the wonderful thing is, you do not need any previous experience or skill to begin and benefit from art therapy! In my practice, I incorporate art therapy and traditional talk therapy along with person-centered approaches, trauma-informed care, narrative therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and family-based theories.
I work with individuals from early childhood through young adulthood who have been impacted by trauma or attachment-based stressors, experience family discord/dysfunction, suffer from depression or anxiety, exhibit aggressive behaviors, are processing grief or life transitions, need assistance with maintaining safety and stability, or are seeking art therapy.

Fun Fact
In my spare time I enjoy making art, doing puzzles, being in nature, playing the piano, and traveling. I also serve on the board of the Virginia Art Therapy Association (VATA), the professional organization for VA-based art therapists.
