Play Therapy

What the Modality is

Play Therapy is a developmentally appropriate approach that uses play as a way for children to express themselves. Just as adults use words to communicate, children use play to share their thoughts, feelings, and experiences—especially when they don’t yet have the language to explain them.

How it Works in Therapy

In Play Therapy sessions, children engage in activities like drawing, storytelling, role-playing, or using toys and games. These activities allow therapists to observe and understand the child’s inner world. Through guided play, children can explore emotions, work through challenges, and practice new coping skills in a safe and supportive environment.

Why it’s Helpful

Play Therapy is especially effective for children who are experiencing anxiety, trauma, behavioral issues, or difficulty adjusting to life changes. It helps children process emotions, build self-esteem, and improve communication and problem-solving skills. It also supports caregivers in understanding and responding to their child’s emotional needs.
